UPCOMING CHANGES?? I71

District of Columbia was one of the earliest states to legalize the use of medical marijuana, but surprisingly, it is still not in favor of removing the restrictions that prohibit the commercial sales of recreational marijuana.

The residents of DC have shown on multiple occasions that the vast majority of them favored the commercialization of recreational marijuana. However, the state has not allowed the sale and purchase of cannabis until now.

Current laws in DC regarding the sale of cannabis:

In 2014, the local voters of the DC area through a ballot initiative called for the legalization of cannabis use, and as a result, the consumption of marijuana for adults was legalized.

So, as things stand right now, the laws do not prevent the consumption of cannabis by adults, but there is a twist.

Although the laws of DC allow adults to consume cannabis for recreational and medical purposes, the sale of cannabis is extremely regulated for medical purposes and completely prohibited for recreational purposes.

Currently, the cannabis consumers exploit the grey area in initiative 71 of DC’s marijuana laws which allows adults to possess up to 2 ounces of marijuana and grow up to 6 plants inside their homes.

Moreover, cannabis is allowed to be gifted along with any other purchase as long as the cannabis is not being directly sold.

Safe Cannabis Sales Act of 2021, the future of DC’s cannabis industry?

There is a huge possibility that the implementation of the Safe Cannabis Sales Act of 2021 would remove the restriction on the sale and purchase of recreational marijuana for anyone aged above 21.

The District’s Mayor, Muriel Bowser is strongly in favor of the acceptance of the bill and is pushing forward to finally get it passed.

Although, president Joe Biden stands against the acceptance of the bill, there are some strong points in the bill that could make the case for the mayor to convince congress to pass the bill despite the president’s wishes.

The prominent aspects of the bill include safety, clarity, and equity. Here’s how they work in favor of cannabis legalization.

Safety: Unregulated cannabis market means illegal production and distribution of marijuana, which increases the chances of harmful ingredients like dangerous chemicals and pesticides being used in cannabis production.

Clarity: Current laws are confusing residents about what is legal and what is not, contributing to a lack of clarity in state laws.

Equity: The communities of color are strongly affected by the decriminalization of cannabis.

Until the new laws are passed, the best bet for cannabis consumers to get weed in DC is still to make use of the gift and purchase model of DC’s initiative 71.

Lucky Chuckie is a gift delivery service company that delivers fresh edibles and flowers to consumers all over the DC and gifts the most peculiar cannabis strains to their customers.

Until new legislation is passed, the residents of DC can quite easily fulfill their weed needs by using the services of Lucky Chuckie, a premier apparel and accessories company that gifts flowers in compliance with District of Columbia Initiative 71.
