DC gears up to allow Cannabis sales for adult use

The cannabis laws in DC have been confusing the inhabitants for quite some years now. Unlike other districts where cannabis use is completely legal for both medical and recreational purposes, the cannabis scene in the district of Columbia differs in a way that although the medical and recreational use of marijuana is decriminalized, the commercial sale and possession of more than 2 pounds is still prohibited.

But every dawn has a dusk and so is the case of cannabis laws in the District of Columbia (DC). In the recent years, research and experimentation have shown time and over the medical benefits of the Cannaniboid (CBD) exceed far more than the psychoactive responses of marijuana use.

The diplomats of the country have identified a huge potential for the booming industry of medical marijuana in the district and have identified that the traditionally challenged communities of color could benefit the most from the new industry if they were allowed to sell and consumers were allowed to buy weed in DC legally.

Legislature for new Cannabis laws in the district:

On November 4, 2014, Washington, D.C. voters overwhelmingly approved Initiative 71. On February 26, 2015, the measure took effect; meaning the following acts are now legal under D.C. law: Possession, purchase, and transportation of up to two ounces of marijuana for personal use by adults 21 and older. Under Initiative 71, the city's voter-approved marijuana legalization law that took effect three years ago this month, giving away small amounts of marijuana is perfectly legal, as is possessing it and growing and using it at home. But in recent months D.C. police have raided the events and arrested vendors.

This is by far the most progress that the cannabis legislature has seen for the past several years but as it appears, the scene is about to change for the better and it may happen sooner than we can expect.

Two separate bills have been introduced in the year 2021 itself with the Safe Cannabis Sales Act of 2021 being the one and the Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Act of 2021 being the second.

Both the laws are in huge favor of complete legalization for commercial sale of cannabis as it can turn in huge revenues which can be put to use and spent on the most affected communities that suffered due to crackdowns whilst the cannabis laws were rigid and unrealistic.

As the new legislation appears to be gaining more and more favors with every passing day, the business owners and consumers alike prepare for stepping up their game as administration in DC gears up to allow Cannabis sales for adult use.

Buying as a gift is still the only option:

The legislation is about to be approved in the near future but until that officially happens, buying as a gift from Initiative 71 compliant businesses will still remain the best option for smokers to get weed on in DC areas.
